Concrete Paver Molds: The most recent Trend in Household ...

As a native Californian, I?ve come to accept that dwelling exteriors are practically constantly constructing making use of either siding or stucco. Bricks are used sparingly, if at all, and stonework is normally confined to indoor tiles and outdoor patio stones, river rock set in gardens, and exposed aggregate patios. More frequently than not, although, walkways, patios, and driveways are simply poured concrete.

Personally, I?ve constantly been attracted to stonework of all kinds. Whether or not it really is a cobblestone driveway, a fireplace produced from river rock, or even a ledge stone wall, I feel that stonework adds beauty and interest to a dwelling. Given that stonework can expense upwards of twelve dollars a square foot, nevertheless, I?ve never ever been able to afford to remodel my house using the stones, rocks, and tiles that so attract me.

Then I ran across an post about concrete paver molds, and discovered that there is a new trend in home improvement: creating your personal, custom colored, concrete stones, rocks, tiles, and bricks. I?ve tried it, and using the right preparation and instructions, have located that I can make my own developing materials for just pennies. In a nutshell, here?s how it operates?.

Concrete Molds

Initially, you will need to begin with top quality concrete molds (despite the fact that some individuals contact them cement molds or plaster molds). You will find firms that make concrete stone molds, patio molds, concrete paver molds, stone veneer molds, and brick veneer molds. Depending on the kind of stone or tile, the mold may perhaps cover an location ranging from about 4 square feet to about seven square feet. A ledge stone mold, for instance, may possibly create 16 ledge stones, while a river rock mold may well generate 12 river rocks. Ideally, you need to obtain various molds so that you?ve a rocks or stones using a number of appearances. Remember, although, that you could use distinct colors or turn stones in distinct direction in order that it does not appear like you are working with duplicate stone or rock shapes.

Preparing Concrete Molds

Once you have your concrete molds and are prepared to start your project, you will need to apply a mold release product so you can very easily take out the stones, tiles, or bricks when they are finished. Whilst some businesses suggest working with motor oil, the run off is bad for the environment. A few of the newer mold release goods will be sprayed in to the concrete molds with a spray bottle ? a significantly preferable process.

Mixing Colors

The artistry in creating your own concrete rocks, tiles, and bricks is in obtaining and mixing the colors you like. Initially, you mix a base color into a concrete and sand mixture. Once you have this base color, you can add additional amounts and combinations of color to give you the variety you seek. Indeed, you are able to generate an infinite number of colors basically by adjusting the color densities. The top colors are created from synthetic iron oxides, while some people have had success with natural oxides, ceramic stains, and even latex paint.

Concrete Pouring and Curing

Your concrete mixture must be somewhat stiff and not soupy. Working with a scoop, you pour the concrete mixture into the concrete paver molds and fill the mold to the top. In case you simply want a veneer stone or tile, you can partially fill the mold.

If you?ve ever worked with concrete, you realize that it?s essential to acquire all the air bubbles out following a pour. This could be achieved by bouncing the concrete stone molds up and down, or by purchasing and employing a vibrating table. Next, cover the mold in plastic and let it rest out on the direct sunlight.

The longer you let the concrete cure, the stronger it is going to be. The concrete molds and be unmolded after 24 hours, but it?s best to wait longer. As soon as you release the stones, tiles, or bricks, you should rewrap them in plastic to preserve the moisture and let them remedy for an extra two weeks. Then, you merely need to apply sealant for your creations, and they will be ready to install.

I?ve discovered that in a position to make a wonderful stone pathway, tile entryway, or river rock fireplace is incredibly rewarding. And to think that it all began when I read an write-up about concrete paver molds.

Abstract: A series of novel 1-(4-substitutedbenzoyl)-4-(4-chlorobenzhydryl)piperazine derivatives 5a?g was designed by a nucleophilic substitution reaction of 1-(4-chlorobenzhydryl)piperazine with various benzoyl chlorides and characterized by elemental analyses, IR and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectra. Cytotoxicity of the compounds was demonstrated on cancer cell lines from liver (HUH7, FOCUS, MAHLAVU, HEPG2, HEP3B), breast (MCF7, BT20, T47D, CAMA-1), colon (HCT-116), gastric (KATO-3) and endometrial (MFE-296) cancer cell lines. Time-dependent cytotoxicity analysis of compound 5a indicated the long-term in situ stability of this compound. All compounds showed significant cell growth inhibitory activity on the selected cancer cell lines.

Alaska glacier wreckage is 1950s military plane

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) ? The wreckage of a military plane found this month on an Alaska glacier is that of an Air Force plane that crashed in 1952, killing all 52 people aboard, military officials said Wednesday.

Army Capt. Jamie Dobson said evidence found at the crash site correlates with the missing C-124A Globemaster, but the military is not eliminating other possibilities because much investigation still needs to be done.

Processing DNA samples from relatives of those on board the plane could take up to six years, Dobson said.

"We're still at the very beginning of this investigation," she said. "This is very close to the starting line, not the finish line."

The Alaska National Guard discovered the wreckage and possibly bones June 10 on Colony Glacier, about 40 miles east of Anchorage. The wreckage was spotted soon after the heavy transport plane vanished Nov. 22, 1952, with 41 passengers and 11 crew members, but it became buried in snow and likely churned beneath the surface of the glacier for decades, Dobson said.

"The ice gives up what it wants to give up when it wants to give it up," she said. "It's really in control."

The plane went down on a flight from McChord Air Force Base in Washington state.

An Associated Press report on Nov. 24, 1952, said the Globemaster was the third big Air Force transport plane to crash or vanish in Alaska that month and the sixth around the Pacific Rim.

Soon after the crash, a 12-member military team tried three times to make it to the site, but was thwarted by bad weather, said Tonja Anderson, whose grandfather Isaac Anderson was among those on board the doomed flight. The 41-year-old Tampa, Fla., woman has researched the crash for 12 years since her grandmother, now deceased, gave her details of the airman who died at age 21, leaving behind a young widow and 1 ?-year-old son.

"I'm overwhelmed," Anderson said Wednesday about the positive identification. It's something she has tried to long get from the military, she said, only to be told that recovering the remains from the plane's hidden grave was unfeasible and would be too expensive.

"If they can bring me one bone of my grandfather or his dog tag, that would be closure for me," she said.

Days after the Globemaster went down, a member of the Fairbanks Civil Air Patrol, along with a member of the 10th Air Rescue Squadron, landed at a glacier in the area and positively identified the wreckage as the Globemaster.

According to an AP account, the civil air patrol member was Terris Moore, who was president of the University of Alaska. After returning from the site, he told reporters that the plane "obviously was flying at full speed" when it hit Mount Gannett, sliding down the snow-covered cliffs, exploding and disintegrating over two or three acres.

Only the tail and flippers of the craft were intact, but the tail numbers were enough for an identification. Moore said blood was found on a piece of blanket and there was a "sickly-sweet smell of death."

The debris was discovered June 14 while Alaska National Guardsmen were flying a Blackhawk helicopter during a training mission near the glacier. The guardsmen flew over the area several times.

Federal aviation officials implemented temporary flight restrictions over the area while the military investigation was conducted.

An eight-man Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command arrived last week, military officials said. It completed its work Tuesday at the glacier.

The team recovered materials like a life-support system from the wreckage and possible bones from the glacier. The evidence was being taken to the command's lab in Hawaii for analysis.

App eases public transit woes for blind and disabled riders

Featured

Are you your own worst enemy? If so, the following gadgets might be able to help you overcome some?relatively minor shortcomings. That is to... Read more

7 hrs.

Researchers in Barcelona have created an app that may prove useful to riders of public transit who are blind, deaf or otherwise disabled. OnTheBus hooks into GPS and transit data and alerts the user where and when they need to board, signal and disembark.

While transit systems make some allowances for riders who may be unable to see or hear when the bus arrives, or they themselves have arrived at their stop, there are doubtless many riders who could use some additional help.

After checking a few routes with the user, the app will direct them to the nearest bus stop and inform them when their bus should be arriving. Once on, it will tell them how many stops they will be riding for, and tells them when to activate the "stop" cord or button. And once they've returned to the pavement, it continues guiding them to their destination with walking directions.

Users don't have to type, either: The app will accept voice input or writing with symbols, and a separate interface was designed for people with severe visual impairment or total blindness. You can watch a demonstration of the app below; it's in Spanish, but the functionality is easy to understand:

It only works with buses for now, as the GPS signal would be blocked in subway systems. But the researchers are looking to expand into other transit styles, and are even considering adding augmented reality features to help people locate stops ? for instance, after determining the user's position and orientation, the phone's camera could display the bus stop through the landscape and give turn-by-turn directions.

The OnTheBus database currently supports buses in Barcelona, Madrid, and Rome, in several languages. The makers hope to expand it to other cities and languages, though beyond the next few their plans are not being stated. The app is available now for Android.

Intel designs neuromorphic chip concept, our android clones are one step closer

Neuromancer chip

Most neurochip projects have been designed around melding the brain and technology in the most literal sense. Intel's Circuit Research Laboratory, however, is betting that we might get along just fine with neuromorphic (brain-like) computers. By using valves that only have to respond to the spin of an electron, as well as memristors that work as very efficient permanent storage, the researchers believe they have a design that operates on the same spikes of energy that our noggins use rather than a non-stop stream. Along with simply using power levels closer to those of our brains, the technique allows for the very subtle, massively parallel computations that our minds manage every day but which are still difficult to reproduce with traditional PCs. There's still a long path to take before we're reproducing Prometheus' David (if we want to), but we've at least started walking in the right direction.

Kim Kardashian, Drake Get Punk'd Before Movie Awards

Original punk master Ashton Kutcher returns to wreak havoc in Drizzy and Kim's lives.

MTV's original punkmaster, Ashton Kutcher, returned to his roots tonight for a very special episode of "Punk'd," that aired right before the 2012 MTV Movie Awards.

During the spicy episode, he pulled two certain-to-be memorable fast ones on reality-TV starlet Kim Kardashian and Young Money rapper Drake.

In the episode, after he unlocked his signature trucker cap, Kutcher made a confession. "I haven't had much going on in my life," he said. "It's been relatively mundane. I'm going to be hosting 'Punk'd' this week because what's happened thus far has been a f---ing travesty. I think it's time to step it up a notch."

Although the show has had A-listers like Justin Bieber on hand to punk their celebrity pals, this episode was all about going big or going home. In a meeting with his punking team, Kutcher said, "I'm thinking Gaga. I'm thinking Drake. I'm thinking Kardashian — only the one that dates the football players."

Drake, it seems, had been the A-lister producers had been hankering to get on the show. "We have to give him something that he can't not show up for. Even though he knows we're out there, we just have to go for perfection," the host said, before pitching that he always wanted to throw a star in an earthquake scenario.

But how will he make it perfect? Well, Kutcher wants Drake caught in the earthquake while in a parking garage on the way to meet the vice president.

"We're gonna shake things up for Drake a bit," the "Two and a Half Men" star said. "I highly anticipate Drake urinating; he might scream a little bit."

Cut to the prank day: The rapper is in the car with the "Secret Service," whom he pleasantly accepts compliments from. From behind the scenes, Kutcher adds, "If we can sell this, we own it."

While in the parking garage, the car begins to shake and the MC looks visibly afraid. "Why are we in a parking garage?" a very scared Drake says. "Yo, that is no joke ... that's my first earthquake ever."

Things quickly begin to crumble. A random, frightened person gets in the car, and Drake gets into a bit of a screaming match with a couple. The woman goes into labor, which exasperates Drake even more.

While Drake is shaken by the events, Ashton is in the back laughing at what is unfolding.

"We don't have the keys!" Drake screams as another aftershock happens, and just as Drake is on the verge of tears, Ashton pops out and picks him up for a hug. "Yo, that sh--'s no joke. So we don't get to meet the vice president? I called my mom and everything!" he told Ashton.

Afterward he confessed, "I said very early on in my career that this is such a sign of feeling like you really accomplished something when Ashton decides to punk [you], so today is a semi-feeling of accomplishment, but at the same time, f--- you! I do not appreciate that at all!"

Ashton, pleased with the first punk, says, "I told you we wouldn't miss," and from there, he moves on to Kim.

Kanye West's better half is taken for a ride with her prank, which also includes scaring sister Kourtney's baby daddy, Scott Disick. "Right now, what we're doing, we're keeping it Kutcher," Ashton says before kicking off the prank. "Kim, you're about to learn what a real reality show looks like."

In the control room, Ashton directs the practical joke. It starts off with Scott talking to a superfan and takes a photo with him, with Kim completely unaware of what is happening. Soon, the fan knocks on the window and takes a photo with her, per Ashton's instructions.

When Scott comes back in the car, he realizes his wallet is missing, goes to chase down the fan/suspect, all with the gas nozzle still in the car. Boom, explosion. "OK, something weird is really going on," Kim says.

As one man shouts at the twosome for blowing up his car in the gas-station explosion, an increasingly upset Kim says, "I am literally shaking."

The cops arrive, and Scott gets put in cuffs for the incident, shouting the entire time that his wallet was stolen by the fan — the same one who is still taking pictures and video. Soon, though, it gets more ridiculous when Kim discovers the wallet in their car, and with that, Ashton appears, alleviating all the pressure.

As the episode closes, Ashton has this final message: "I feel like it's complete. Everything I learned from Beyoncé to Kanye to [Justin Timberlake] and everyone we did before, it all built to this moment. I feel like the Drake bit completed a cycle for me."

And, with that, he once again retires the trucker hat.
